പുൽത്തൊട്ടിലിലെ നായ

ഒരു നായ ഒരു ദിനം ഉച്ചയുറക്കത്തിനായി തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തത് ഒഴിഞ്ഞു കിടന്ന കാലിത്തൊഴിത്തിലെ പുൽത്തൊട്ടിയാണ്. വൈകുന്നെരമായപ്പോൾ ജോലിയെല്ലാം കഴിഞ്ഞു തൊഴുത്തിലെത്തിയ കാള വൈക്കോൽ ഭക്ഷിക്കാൻ പുൽത്തൊട്ടിയെ സമീപ്പിച്ചപ്പോൾ നായയുണ്ടോ സമ്മതിക്കുന്നു.
കുരച്ചും കൊണ്ട് നായ, കാളയെ അകറ്റി നിർത്തി. വിശന്നു മടങ്ങവേ കാള പിറുപിറുത്തു: "ചിലർ ഇങ്ങനെയാണ്, തിന്നുകയുമില്ല, തിന്നാനൊട്ടു സമ്മതിക്കുകയുമില്ല"

The Dog in the Manger

A Dog lay in a manger, and by his growling and snapping prevented the oxen from eating the hay which had been placed for them. "What a selfish Dog!" said one of them to his companions; "he cannot eat or sleep in the hay himself, and yet refuses to allow those to eat who can."

People often begrudge others what they cannot enjoy themselves

 A Dog asleep in a manger filled with hay, was awakened by the Cattle, which came in tired and hungry from working in the field. ... When he saw how the Dog was acting, he seized a stick and drove him out of the stable with many a blow for his selfish behavior.  

Moral. Do not grudge others what you cannot enjoy yourself.
